Iwami Kagura is a traditional performing art of the Iwami region in the western part of Shimane Prefecture, performed to a musical accompaniment of large and small drums, hand clapping, and flutes. Iwami Kagura has been passed down to the present as a “brave and gorgeous dance” that fits the temperament of the Iwami people. It is characterized by gorgeous costumes and expressive masks. The fast-paced eight-tune musical accompaniment entertains the audience.
