About Magatama

There are various theories about magatama, but it is said to have originated in the Stone Age, when people began making stones from the bones of animals and fish that were worn as “amulets” to ward off evil. It is also believed that people tried to draw out the power of the stone by shaping it into the shape of the moon or a fetus. According to mythology, the gods Izanagi no Mikoto and Izanami no Mikoto gave a pearl called “Mikulatanano” to Amaterasu no Mikoto (the god of day), saying, “You shall rule the heavens. There is a theory that this bead was a magatama. Since ancient times, they have been used as amulets and accessories.
